Favorite Places to Eat in NYC: Edition One: Pure Food and Wine

It’s Meatless Monday, and the humidity in NYC is off the charts.  Being pregnant and hot as is, the idea of turning on the stove and playing around with a new dish or two wasn’t appealing.  So, I decided that instead of my usual “Meatless Monday” recipe post, I would talk about a few restaurants in NYC that are delicious, nutritous, and decidedly meatless.  If you follow my instagram, you already have a pretty good idea of where I love to eat out in NYC, but, in case not, I will start profiling my favorite places :)

I cannot think of a more logical place to start than my absolute number one pick to eat in this city, every single time I have the choice.  Already guessed it?

Pure Food & Wine

My fave, fave, fave, fave, FAVE!!!! Did I mention this is my favorite?!!!  The absolute reining champ of all things vegan, delicious and healthy, and it just so happens to be raw, and it just so happens to have the most magical, spectacular back garden to eat in to boot! There is really nothing on their menu that I don’t love, so to pick out my highlights is definitely tough.  Some include:

Lunch menu:

  • Spicy Sesame Salad (shredded cabbage, beets, jicama, daikon, cashew, sesame crunch, wasabi aioli)

  • Taco Salad (romaine lettuce, spicy taco crumble, pico de gallo, guacamole, cashew sour cream, cilantro-lime dressing

Dinner Menu:

Appetizers:

  • Pinot Noir Pecan Tart w Herbed Cashew Cheese, Marinated Black Trumpet Mushrooms, Caramelized Shallots, Apricot-Riesling Sauce (pictured here alongside the Spicy Thai Lettuce Wraps)

  • Tuscan Kale & Radicchio Salad w grapes, golden raisins, pine nuts, pumpkin seed macadamia parmesan, lemon caper vinaigrette

Mains:

  • Sweet Corn & Cashew Tamales w Chili Spiced Portabella, salsa verde, avocado, cashew coconut sour cream, raw cacao mole

  • Brazil Nut Sea Vegetable Croquettes w Tartar Sauce, local honey sweet chili sauce, wild arugula, lemon

Desserts:

  • Mint Sundae w Chocolate Mint Cookies, mint, chocolate, and mint chip ice creams, chocolate sauce, vanilla cream

Brunch

ALL OF IT!!!!!!!!  And, I never leave One Lucky Duck (the Pure Food and Wine takeaway around the corner on 17th St) or PFW without one or two of their Parfaits to go – they are DIVINE!!!

I have had the pleasure of having more delicious meals and fabulous company at this restaurant than I can even comprehend.  Another important note: the service here is UNPARALLELED.  Seriously: I have never eaten anywhere else ever that has a more knowledgable, friendly, and helpful staff – they are all incredible and if possible, make each visit here even more wonderful.  The entire experience is magical.  If you are in NYC and haven’t been GO!!!!  Xoxo, Heidi
